History

So where did this event come from??

Many years ago, before even the oldest of the committee members can remember (OK Derek, before MOST of the committee members can remember) there was this idea to build a new village hall. It started, as most such ideas do, among ordinary folk. However, there were an awful lot of folk who were like minded and pretty soon the idea took hold and they wanted something done about it.

A committee was formed. Letters were written to the local press, to the Parish council, basically to anyone who might help raise awareness and most of all money. The usual raft of successes and disappointments came and went. Cynics simply spurred these folk on to greater efforts. Progress was made.

There were many events and small fund raisers contributing to this effort. People wanted to help.
...and boy did they have some interesting ways of raising money. However as time went on a source of larger funds was required for that last great push to the target. Someone had the brain wave for a sponsored Bike Ride - Le Mans style and so was born the Crudwell Bike Ride.

In the pages below this you can see a potted history of the original fund raising ideas and documents. Then there are a few pages of memories from selected years of the Ride. A few older faces and a few younger ones too! Many of them we don’t know all the subjects of the photos, so if you feel like naming a few, please feel free to let us know.
