It’s the Circuit team’s role to make sure that the course is ready to ride and that it is safe during the event.
This means that early in the Spring one or more of us go out and survey the course. If there are any issues - potholes, broken edges etc. First step is to contact Wilts or Glos council as appropriate, casually remind them that we are running the event and see if they are able to mend the road. Meanwhile we will plan to deal with anything else. Probably around this time we’ll think about where we will place lights for the night time riding, order them up. Oh yes, we’ll also try to make sure that we aren’t clashing with anyone’s plans for events located round the course on the ride weekend.
A couple of months out from the event one of us will repeat this exercise while another will start the task of seeking volunteers for the Marshalls. This is a really important group of volunteers, without whom the Ride would not be able to take place. They are the first line of assistance during the event for any safety issues and help to ensure the smooth running of the event.
A month out and things are hotting up. Lots of stuff to do, some by ourselves, some by persuasion. Making sure that we have the right equipment ready, that the emergency vehicle is set and prepped, that we have a rota of drivers, all the Marshalls etc. Grab the info from the Admin team about the sponsors and start making the signs for the sponsor markers.
Last week arrives and we’re out there sweeping the circuit - yes really - & making last minute adjustments.
Come the day before and on the day we’re out setting up the course, lights, signs, warnings, first aid, barriers, tapes.
Sunday it’s clear up time so we reverse the lot!!!
