So, this Crudwell Ride thingy, isn’t it just a bunch of folk coming together for a big long ride and then asking a lot of other, really generous people to give them money for doing this?
Well, in principle yes, but someone has to ensure that all participants are safe (including from themselves!!), set out the course, add the fun event bits, make sure that someone collects the cash, keeps the books so money doesn’t go astray, deal with the gift aid, talk to the police, the councils, provide food etc. etc. etc. and then when everyone has gone home, clear it all up again!
OK then, how does the event happen each year?
In the best fund raising traditions its all done by volunteers and it’s not always the obvious faces. Preparation starts about 5 months before the event itself and continues until everyone has collected the money in so that it can be distributed to the charities, so that would be, er, 5 - 6 months after the event. Yep - we get Christmas off!
